Who was the Blood Countess?
We all have our own interests whether it is playing games, reading or killing your housemaids and bathing in their blood. Most of us cannot relate to the last one but Countess Elizabeth Bathory certainly did. Due to her unique interests, she is considered one of the most famous female serial killers and the topic of this post.
Countess Elizabeth Bathory was born on the 7 August 1560 in Hungary into the noble family of Bathory. Her interest in the morbid began at an early age, as she laughed at the violent punishment of criminals and servants rather than being disgusted.
When she was 14 years old, she married the 19-year-old Count Ferenc Nadasky, who shared her love of violence. Shortly after their marriage, however, Ferenc went to war leaving Elizabeth in charge of the household. In 1601 a woman named Anna Darvolya joined the household. She encouraged her sadistic nature by teaching her how to kill. During this time, Elizabeth killed several of her servants without any question.
Things only got worse after her husband’s death in 1604, which left her fully responsible for the household. The more she stressed the more sadistic and murderous she became. Even building rooms where she would torture and kill her victims.
Eventually, she killed so many people that she ran out of victims and money. She then started a school for noble girls that provided her with money and victims. However, the noble families were furious about the disappearances and reported her to the king. This led to a life sentence in her own dungeons, where she died in 1614.
