Anime Review: Toradora

Genre: Romance, Feel-good

Age Restriction: 13

Toradora is an anime based off of the manga and light novels of the same name by Yuyuko Takemiya. I haven’t read the novels or manga so this article is solely based on the anime.

!!SPOILER FREE!!

Toradora follows Ryuji and Taiga’s unlikely friendship, and how it began in hopes of impressing and pursuing relationships with their best friends. However the story isn’t as linear then that and there are many twists and turns.

What makes this series is relationships, the dynamics between the characters are compelling leaving you wanting to know more. There are plenty of scenes that will leave you in awestruck. Saying that the ending was a little rushed maybe the show needed more episodes to flesh it out and maybe it was handled better in the manga.

If you get second hand embarrassed easily you may want to give this show a skip.

!!SPOILERS!!

Personally Taiga is a character that I have very mixed feelings of. Sometimes I really enjoy her character but then other times I really don’t. Also her romantic relationship with Ryuji felt a little unhealthy personally I didn’t like the fact she referred to Ryuji as her dog, I wish their relationship was more equal however saying that her leaving to grow gives me hope that their relationship became more healthy and equal.

I personally didn’t want Taiga and Ryuji to get together, I preferred them as friends I liked their sibling-like dynamic and I didn’t really feel the chemistry between them because of the rushed ending.

Also I didn’t understand Taiga’s character change during and after the Christmas arc, It came out of no where leaving me with massive whiplash.

Bonus: The family struggles tucked at my heart strings massively, I do think that show handled it well.

Any who this is all my opinion, you are allowed to enjoy their relationship and I would love to know why you like them as a couple. As well as feel free to just discuss the show or manga or light novels down in the comments.
