Interesting facts about Venus

Welcome back to our fellow space lovers as we continue to go on an educational journey through the solar system. The last post in this series was Mercury (read: https://curiositykilledthecat.co.za/2021/06/25/interesting-facts-mercury/), so naturally the next is Venus.
- Venus is the brightest planet in our solar system and the second brightest natural object after the moon.
- Venus is named after the Roman goddess of love, beauty, desire and fertility due to it’s brightness.
- A day on Venus is 243 Earth days and has the longest day of all the planets.
- Venus is almost the same size as Earth and is the 6th largest planet.
- Venus is the hottest planet at roughly 470 degrees Celsius or 870 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Venusian winds are very fast reaching about 724 kph or 450 mph.
- Venus and Mercury are the only planets without moons.
- Venus is the only planet to rotate clockwise around the sun.
- A Venusian year is 225 Earth days.
- Venus is Earth’s twin planet due to their similarities.
- Venus was first discovered in 1610 by Galileo.
- A total of 38 space crafts have somewhat successfully completed a mission to Venus.
- Venera 7 was the first successful mission to Venus in 1970.
- Venus has a reddish-brown surface due to its dense carbon dioxide cloud.
- Venus has phases similar to lunar phases.
