Origin of Cupid

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY <3

Cupid is depicted as the son of the love goddess Venus and the god of war Mars. During the Hellenistic period (323 BC) he was portrayed as a chubby boy and his infamous bow and arrow also made an appearance during this time. His bow and arrow represent his source of power, a person/deity who is shot with his arrow is filled with uncontrollable desire. In myths he is a minor character that sets the plot in motion however he became a main character in Cupid and Psyche.

Cupid gained popularity under Christian influence as he had a duel nature as Heavenly and Earthly love. He also has managed to stay well known as relevant to multiple flying babies in art (that look similar to how he was Portrayed) as well as becoming the face of Valentines Day.He also still has an influence on modern stories, for example stories of love spells causing the wrong characters to fall in love and the other characters have to find a way to break the spell sounds similar am I right? Or stories featuring him, himself.

Let us know any Cupid related things that you may already know or maybe your favorite stories depicted him! We hope you enjoyed this article as much as we did and I hope you have a fantastic Valentines day with your loved ones and special somebodies.
